Rainbow Collection Stories

Years ago, on a rainy, foggy spring day, as I was coming home from work, a sudden rain shower began to pour down from one massive cloud in the sky. I ran down a gravel road and sheltered in a small, old, abandoned greenhouse. Home was further along, at the end of that gravel road.

Inside the greenhouse was a collection of broken planter boxes, half-empty, sitting together without any sense of discipline. Inside some of them, plants had begun to sprout. I remember clearly the rain tapping on the broken glass ceiling, creating a musical soundtrack.

The sun came out just a few minutes after the rain. A waterfall of colorful rainbow rays refracted off the splintered ceiling of the greenhouse. The rainbow colored seven water droplets which grew close to the edge before dropping at an even pace into seven different vases, creating a harmonious sound and scattering pale, glittery dust.

I left the greenhouse feeling amazed by the magical sight I had seen, but I never went back again.

Years later, when I completed the first doll in this collection, I realized she had landed on Earth that day in the greenhouse, traveling to Earth on the last rainbow transit of the season.
